DUI Program

The CORE Program is the only certified and licensed program in the 19th Judicial Circuit approved by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to provide DUI Levels 1 and 2 and assessment services.

Level 1 DUI Course

The Level 1 DUI course consists of twelve hours of substance abuse, traffic law, Florida Statutes and local resource information. The focus of Level 1 is to provide the participant with educational information to help prevent future problems with drinking and driving.

Level 2 DUI Course

The Level 2 DUI course consists of twenty-one hours of interactive education in a small group setting. The class size is limited to fifteen participants. Level 2 focuses on the problematic use of alcohol and other drugs and prepares participants for attending counseling.

Evaluation & Assessment

Individualized substance abuse and driver risk assessments are completed by certified evaluators. The evaluation consists of an individualized, structured interview and the completion of the Driver Risk Inventory (DRI), a computerized testing instrument. Evaluators compile data and may refer the participant to counseling based on assessed risk factors and other information gathered from the driver license, interview, DRI, arrest affidavit and interview content. Referrals for counseling are made to agencies and individuals licensed by Children and Family Services for substance abuse treatment. Treatment agencies are required to provide feedback information and documentation of completion to the DUI Program for all participants who are referred for services.

Florida Statute 322.292(4) states

“DUI education courses must be conducted by a certified DUI instructor in a classroom, using Face-to-face instruction and must provide for interaction in the classroom among students and the instructor.

Courses may not be conducted via the Internet, remote electronic technology, home study, distance learning, or any other method in which the instructor and students are not physically present in the same classroom.”
